Starting from our homeport in Douarnenez, we will set sail towards Pasaia: A maritime festival awaits Grayhound in northern Spain!
This sailing trip across the infamous bay of biscay will take about a week, and will be filled with unexpected experiences and encounters:
At the continental shelf, we might meet dolphins that like to play at the bow of the ship and seem fluorescent at night ; we might enjoy calm and beautiful sunsets on deck together, or get to witness the power of the wind & waves while the ship carries us safely through the seas… and we will for sure feel the strong community that adventure like this can build.
And also the sailing will not come short on this voyage! Before you know it, you become a part of the crew, join a watch, steer the boat, help set sails, douse them,… On a lugger like Grayhound there is lots and lots to learn. Be it about how to belay a pin or do some coastal navigation - the professional crew is happy to teach you on this adventurous voyage of traditional sailing!

Our recommendation:
For adventure seekers who can organise just under a month away from home, we recommend booking this trip together with the stay in Pasaia and the sailing trip back to Brittany (planned arrival in Douarnenez May 25)… This way, you really learn the most you can about traditional sailing, enjoy the beauty of the basque country and get as much as possible out of your adventure of a lifetime!
Important to know:
🗣️ Since we are mainly sailing in French waters, the main language onboard is French. But don’t be worried: Most of the professional crew onboard also speaks English.
🕙 The departure/arrival times are indicative and are subject to be changed due to weather or other factors. We will communicate with you to be sure all is clear ahead of time.

Au départ de notre port d'attache, Douarnenez, nous mettrons le cap sur Pasaia où un festival maritime attend le Grayhound dans le nord de l'Espagne !
Ce voyage en voilier à travers le célèbre golfe de Gascogne durera environ une semaine et sera ponctué d'expériences et de rencontres inattendues :
Sur le plateau océanique, nous pourrions croiser des dauphins qui aiment jouer à l'étrave et semblent fluorescents la nuit dans le plancton bioluminescent ; nous pourrions admirer ensemble de magnifiques couchers de soleil sur le pont, ou être témoins de la puissance du vent et des vagues tandis que le navire nous transporte en toute sécurité à travers les mers… ; et nous ressentirons assurément la forte camaraderie que peut créer une telle aventure.
Et la navigation ne sera pas en reste ! En un rien de temps, vous ferez partie de l'équipage, participerez aux quarts et aux manœuvres : barrer, aider à hisser les voiles, à les affaler…
Sur un lougre comme le Grayhound, il y a tant à apprendre. Qu'il s'agisse d'amarrer une ancre ou de naviguer le long des côtes, l'équipage professionnel se fera un plaisir de vous former pendant cette aventure à la voile traditionnelle !
Notre recommandation :
Pour les aventuriers qui peuvent s'absenter un peu moins d'un mois, nous recommandons de réserver ce voyage avec le séjour à Pasaia et la traversée en voilier pour retourner en Bretagne (arrivée prévue à Douarnenez le 25 mai)… Pour apprendre au maximum la voile traditionnelle, admirer la beauté du Pays basque et vivre pleinement l'aventure de votre vie !

🗣️ Nous naviguons maintenant principalement dans les eaux françaises, la langue principale à bord est donc le français. La plupart des marins professionnels à bord parlent anglais et français.
